Syphilis Campaign Planning Project

May 19, 2025

The Syphilis Communications Campaign Planning Project is a comprehensive suite of resources and tools — created in collaboration by ASTHO, CDC, and Trillium — designed to help health agencies create robust messaging campaigns aimed at increasing syphilis testing and prevention efforts. These worksheet templates can be used to develop and customize a messaging campaign tailored to your agency’s programs. Accompanying the templates are two reports exploring the development and efficacy of these resources.

Creative Concepts Messaging Campaign

These customizable creative concepts are designed to support health departments in their syphilis prevention and screening efforts. Each creative concept has tailored messaging and can be easily edited and personalized with health department logos. The materials target two key audiences:

  • Health care providers working in settings such as emergency rooms, urgent care centers, correctional facilities, and rural clinics, helping them recognize syphilis risk factors, follow testing guidelines, and ensure timely treatment.
  • Pregnant individuals, both in prenatal care and those not engaged in care, particularly those at higher risk due to drug use, transactional sex, or unstable housing. The materials aim to increase awareness of syphilis risks, promote routine testing, and connect individuals to appropriate care and treatment resources.

These resources are designed to be distributed in clinical settings and in the community, through harm reduction services, online campaigns, and more. They ensure that both providers and at-risk populations receive critical information to help reduce syphilis transmission and improve health outcomes.
