Advancing Equity in Maternal Heart Health Through Breastfeeding

February 22, 2021

This ASTHOConnects took place on February 22, 2021, which enabled state and local teams participating in the SPAN/Breastfeeding Learning Community, REACH, and ASTHO Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Learning Collaborative program to learn about how breastfeeding can reduce the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Participants also learned about strategies for integrating breastfeeding and cardiovascular health initiatives. The webinar aimed to enable participants to:

  1. Describe disparities in maternal hypertension & CVD risk.
  2. Describe how breastfeeding can reduce the risk of maternal hypertension, which reduces the risk of perinatal, intrapartum, and lifelong CVD.
  3. Identify at least one strategy jurisdictions and community-based partners can implement to reduce population CVD risk through breastfeeding promotion and support.
