The Importance of a Comprehensive Approach to Improving Maternal Health

October 15, 2020

New Jersey has ranked 47th in maternal deaths according to America’s Health Rankings, but Gov. Phil Murphy and the Department of Health are taking bold steps to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity by 50% over five years and to eliminate racial disparities in birth outcomes. The Nurture New Jersey initiative is a statewide awareness campaign, launched in 2019, that takes a multi-pronged, multi-agency approach to achieve this goal.

ASTHO spoke with two individuals involved in this initiative: David Adinaro, MD, New Jersey’s Deputy Commissioner for Public Health Services, and Denise Anderson, Executive Director of the New Jersey Maternal Care Quality Collaborative.
