  • ASTHO supports and promotes several national initiatives to improve wellness in the United States.

  • Dietary Guidelines for Americans

    ASTHO, with support from the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, is working to identify and promote the current uses of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) in order to educate and mobilize state health leadership to utilize and integrate DGA throughout the state health agency. ASTHO will be developing state case studies and other resources to support implementation efforts. Read more »

    healthfinder.gov is the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion’s consumer-facing wellness and prevention website. This site provides easy-to-understand, actionable information on prevention and wellness topics that state health agencies can use to promote healthy living in their communities. Read more »

  • The Healthy Brain Initiative and Healthy Aging

    The goal of CDC's Healthy Brain Initiative is to maintain or improve the cognitive performance of all adults. ASTHO supports opportunities for states to promote cognitive functioning and address the needs of care partners. Read more »

  • ASTHO Supports Healthy People 2020

    Healthy People is the foundation for prevention efforts across the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Healthy People offers comprehensive, science-based, 10-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans. Measureable objectives and goals are organized into 42 topic areas that can be applied at the state level. The Leading Health Indicators are a smaller set of Healthy People 2020 objectives that emphasize high-priority health issues and actions that can be taken to address them. Read more »

  • Implementing the National Prevention Strategy

    ASTHO is educating and encouraging public health leaders to promote the National Prevention Strategy in policymaking and program development. By collaborating across multiple sectors to address health disparities and empower individuals, promoting healthy communities and ensuring quality clinical and community preventive services, we can increase the number of Americans who are healthy at every stage of life. ASTHO will be developing resources, webinars, and state stories to support cross-sector implementation efforts. Read more »

  • Promoting the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans

    In 2008, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued the inaugural Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. State health agencies have the ability to be key players in the promotion of physical activity in their states. ASTHO is developing an online clearinghouse of resources for state health officials in order to assist them in implementing the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. Read more »
