ASTHO/CDC Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Learning Collaborative: Lessons Learned from the Payers Cohort

Through the ASTHO/CDC Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Learning Collaborative, a six-state cohort (Arkansas, Florida, Nevada, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin), i.e., the "payers cohort," collaborated with public health departments and private payers to improve population-level blood pressure control through innovative, data-driven healthcare delivery and payment models. This report highlights how the six states convened cross-sector teams which included payer partners, local health agency staff, academic institutions, community health workers, and other state‐ or local‐level stakeholders to support efforts to improve cardiovascular health outcomes, focusing on blood pressure control and reducing healthcare costs.Read More »

North Dakota Tests Innovative Health IT Approaches to Improve Hypertension Identification and Control in Workplaces

Through the ASTHO/CDC Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Learning Collaborative, funded by CDC’s Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention, the North Dakota Department of Health partnered with a diverse set of stakeholders, including local health units, emergency medical services professionals, payers, and health systems. Cross-Agency Approaches to Substance Use Disorder Prevention and Treatment: National Recommendations

States across the country are aligning policies, funding, staffing, and data across agencies to more effectively an efficiently utilize resources to meet the needs of people living with or at risk of developing substance use disorder (SUD). In 2018, ASTHO and the National Academy for State Health Policy convened a group of Medicaid and public health leaders to showcase strategies they have pursued to work more effectively across agencies, as well as develop recommendations for other interested states.
